WATCH IT RUN
Why it exists
– This pocket sculpture is meant as an anxiety relief tool.

There are plenty of “fidget spinner” designs out there, but this one is a bit different.  The central sphere is gently held in stasis by a series of strong Neodymium magnets.  The magnetic repulsion between the center and the ends provides a curiously satisfying tactile experience in the hand.  Since I made the first prototype I have never left the house without one in my pocket.  I find myself reaching for it whenever I am in a stressful situation, or simply need to focus my attention better.  I’ll often feel the impulse to take out my phone (for no good reason) and take out this tool instead.  Deceptively simple in design, this object really cannot be appreciated until it is in your hand.

—————————————————————————————–

Made from hand machined and silver soldered stainless steel spheres and rods, combined with strong Neodymium magnets.

If you’re like me, and spend time in environments with a lot of steel dust, the magnets will accumulate debris.  I find that this cleans up easily by dabbing at these areas with a scrap of masking tape.

Found aluminum TIG-welded and sanded seamless; nothing is cast. Electronics salvaged from consumer devices, repaired and rewired.
